Spring is here and that means summer time is not that far away. And for music festival lovers, summer time means festival time. Come June and July hundreds of thousands of people will be travelling all over the UK to enjoy days of great music, relaxation and letting go of the rules that govern the outside world.
Festivals are a place of enjoying yourself and making new friends through sharing great concerts. There is also always the fascination with maybe spotting the next big thing on a stage before they break through to the limelight. Many a famous band have paid their dues playing at festivals around the country before making it big. But not all festivals are created equal. This summer there will be more festivals than ever with many big names dropping by the UK. So, what are the this years top choices?
Glastonbury
Glastonbury becomes host to thousands of music lovers every year, and this year is no exception. Tickets are already sold out this year, so you are in bad luck if you did not yet get one. The event takes place late in June (24-28th). This year features a remarkable linep of artists including Blur, Franz Ferdinand, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Jones, Led Zeppelin, Keane and many more. It is no surprise this card sold out so fast, as this is turning out to be perhaps the greatest line-up ever at the Glastonbury festival;
Glade Festival
Glade music festival is the UK’s leading dance music event, and for this year the organizers have found a new home in Winchester. The event runs from July 16th to July 19th, and is known as the premier electronic music festival in all of Europe.
The V Festival
The V, will be held on two days in August, 22nd-23rd, with tickets available from March onwards. There are two venues for this festival, one in Weston Park, Staffordshire and one in Hylands Park, Chelmsford. The final line-up is not ready yet, but last years line-up bodes well, with Amy Winehouse and Kings Of Leon making their mark.
T in the Park
Balado, Scotland is host to the T in the Park festival of July 10th-12th. Running for it’s 16th year, this festival already has confirmed many top acts such as Blur, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Pete Doherty, Elbow and Razorlight.
Isle of Wight Festival
A short ferry ride of the coast and you are on Isle of Wight, which lays host to a music festival named after the island itself. A legendary music festival featuring this year: The Prodigy, Ting Tings and Basement Jaxx. The festival runs from June 12th to June 14th.
There is no shortage of music festivals to visit this summer in the UK. The only problem is having to prioritise your time as some of these festivals are held on the same dates.
