Aruba “The island offers some wonderful golf courses,” says proprietor of the Aruba rentals agency Aruba Villa Vacation Homes, Matthew Smillie. Practically every hole on Aruba provides a spectacular view.”

Aruba s only 18-hole golf course is at the Tierra Del Sol resort, but it’s a championship-level experience. The Aruba Aces Championship, a senior PGA tour event, is held at the par-71, 6,811 yard course, designed by Robert Trent Jones. Tierra Del Sol also provides putting greens, a leaderboard, track skins for groups, chipping area, and a practice range. Each cart is equipped with a GPS unit and offers electronic scoring as well as two-way communication with the clubhouse.

Because Tierra Del Sol has a great location on Aruba’s northwest coast, just about every hole has spectacular ocean vistas, including the third hole s especially beautiful view of the California Lighthouse. Tierra del Sol is composed mostly of Bermuda grass, so it is an island of green surrounded by desert-like terrain. “The course has some water hazards; but, the primary hazard is provided by the island s continuous trade winds,” observes Smillie, proprietor of an Aruba villa rental company.

For golfers on a budget, Aruba offers the Aruba Golf Club, a 9-hole Astroturf course. Golfers golf on oiled sand greens, while avoiding nearly 20 sand and 5 water traps. “The wind provides another hazard,” explains Smillie, the proprietor of an Aruba beach villas agency. “Golfers also need to be on the lookout for goats wandering around the course.” Constructed in 1941, this course is the island s oldest.

A lot of island hotels have their own 9-hole courses, including the Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort. “The Divi course provides some terrific views and also offers golf lessons, a chipping area, a bunker practice area, and a driving range,” observes Smillie, the proprietor of an Aruba vacation rentals company.

The Divi hotel’s par-36, ecologically friendly course gives hotel guests tee-time priority, but anyone is welcome to play. Divi s course requires a golf cart and mandates a dress code. However, it does not offer caddie service. The course surrounds a spacious clubhouse with two restaurants and a lounge offering beautiful water views. Hotel guests also have the chance to stay in golf view suites. The 2,900-yard course was designed by Litten & Viola.
